Intelligent Remote Power Questions & Answers

Intelligent Remote Power Solution (IRPS) FAQ

Where can I buy IRPS?

Mythos Solar Energy representatives are ready to assist you with your IRPS order. Contact Mythos Solar Energy at or (800) 773-6931.

What will I be able to power with my IRPS?

You will be able to power WiFi or WiMAX transmitters, wireless cameras, surveillance and lighting. If you have an application not listed, contact Mythos Solar Energy for an engineering and development quote.

How long will my backup power last?

Backup power will last three to ten days autonomy, depending on location and configuration.

Can I save money by installing the IRPS?

Yes. In addition to saving money on your power bill, you’ll save on installation costs (avoiding trenching, saving time and eliminating the cost of copper wiring) and on maintenance (avoiding unnecessary checkup trips).

How many IRPS would I need to support a strong WiFi system?

The number required depends on your location and the grid availability.

What maintenance is involved for the IRPS?

Remote monitoring is provided to reduce unscheduled maintenance trips, however, periodic washing of the modules is advised to maximize efficiency. The IRPS should only require periodic module and battery checks.

Is the system monitored?

The system is monitored in real time, 24/7, 365 days a year.

How do I know if something is wrong with one of my units and how would I know which one?

The remote monitoring software will send alerts directing you to the faulty IRPS unit.

How can I determine which sites within a deployment are most cost effective for using the IRPS?

Any site more than 1,000 feet from the utility grid makes economic sense because it avoids the cost of trenching and cabling and limits exposure to rising costs of copper, aluminum and utility power rates.

What are the determining factors for using the IRPS vs. a standard grid-connected installation?

The following are factors to consider when deciding between IRPS and a grid-connected power supply:

  • Grid availability
  • Cost of utility power
  • Environmental impact
  • Budget
  • Location
How easy is it to install an IRPS?

IRPS is designed to be an easy-to-install, plug and play product. Installation should take approximately one hour per unit, depending on location and configuration.

What are the available IRPS options?

Power and battery capacity:

  • 12 VDC + 200 AH
  • 24 VDC + 200/400 AH
  • 48 VDC + 400/800 AH

Array sizes:

  • 80 watts
  • 160 watts
  • 170 watts
  • 208 watts
  • 340 watts
  • 416 watts
  • 680 watts
  • 832 watts
What is the warranty for the IRPS?
  • Solar modules: 20-25 years manufacturer warranty
  • Electrical components: 10 years
  • Batteries: 2 years
  • Parts and labor: 5 years
What kind of temperatures can the IRPS operate in?

IRPS will operate in conditions from -40°C — + 60°C.

Can the IRPS handle strong winds?

Yes, mounting structure, enclosures and modules are designed to withstand winds up to 125 mph.

What information will the IRPS monitoring software provide?

It provides you with critical performance data, including solar energy production, battery capacity, error alerts and the environmental savings.
